Welcome,
Have you heard it… that quiet whisper upon the wind of seasons or the loud crashing of heavenly thunder. Either way an event has taken place, time and space have come together at a point, creating a dynamic shift to your reality. What does it mean? How will you respond? Will you be strong enough to survive what lies ahead of you? Who knows, but I bet it’s going to be one hell of a ride!
Adventure my friends, that’s what I’m talking about and that’s what I seek. Your story, my story, his story, her story, their story, our story… I seek the ability to read the book of life. I want to participate in it fully and want you too as well. By becoming better participants in our own story, we gain insight into who we are and what we are all about. All of us. That’s what the old stories (and some new ones) were for. To teach us something about life and how to go about it. Every hero’s journey ended up with said hero/heroine gaining some powerful gift/boon/elixir/knowledge. After which if that adventurer was good at what they did, would bring back this powerful thing to share with their community. This could have been represented by their family, village, kingdom, city, state, nation, world… It was their responsibility after facing all of the trials, failures, near death experiences, rebirths, contests of strength both inner and outer; too share the wealth. Especially with those who haven’t been as fortunate to have heard the call to their own adventure.
I have fought my own dragons and I have slayed them. I have been eaten by them as well. The red knight has challenged me many times and beaten me almost as many. I have been unhorsed more times then I would ever want to count, but with every fall I became stronger and learned more about my opponent. Eventually I broke his shield upon my lance of commitment and dedication and won the right to wear his armor, shattering his power over me forever to come. These things I have done and shall do again, always a part of the cycle that is my life.
In a philosophical way this is a description of things to come for any person bold enough to venture forward into this realm of unknowns, that is the Blog.
I charge you bold traveler to take full ownership over yourself and all the faculties you posses, for you will need them. To see the light and experience it’s radiant life giving glow we must first brave the darkness and unknown. Be sure and let it ever be said that I have laid bare the perils of what lie ahead. Life is but two forces constantly opposing each other but in that conflict, life exists. There is a fork in the path up ahead, a sign is posted, you examine it.
An arrow points down one path and beneath it, very neatly painted and in orderly fashion, “this way is easy” it says. “Down this path a simple ordinary existence filled with mundane, white picketed, cookie cutter, sanitized reality. Where every decision has already been made for you and all you have to do is show up and get your card punched.” “Expect the average and nothing more” the sign declares. “Average hopes, average dreams, averages wins, average losses, average fear, average danger, average love, average life. This is the easy path make no mistake and it never changes.”
Glancing down this path at first the viewer sees a couple of things. He sees a job, nothing outstanding, just a simple day to day routine, to keep you busy and bring home the bacon. He sees a partner, one that is safe and satisfactory. A couple of kids, a couple of vacations, a hobby or two. The viewer notices a few bumps in the road, a death here and there, an accident or health scare as well. However all these give way to a smoother path of distractions and easily ordered up assistance, in pills, porn, affairs, divorces, mid-life crises, drugs, gadgets, fast food, tv and a total acknowledgment of non-acknowledgment. Way down at the end of path it gets a little blurry, too far to see exactly what it might be. Squinting your eyes, you vaguely make out something that looks like an old man with very dull eyes and a stupped gait. He is alone and appears very tired, crows are gathering in the trees above him. He seems to be carrying a well worn pack filled with different items. Again this image is barely visible to you, in fact it seems to be flickering in and out of existence. Before it does disappear you make out a few words written upon the contents of his sack. Regret, Waste, Fear, Emptiness and Nothing. For a moment your heart understands entirely what lies at the end of this road, you fill with dread and become fully awake. Your consciousness is burning and you don’t know what to do. Desperate you glance at the other side of the sign.
Very gothic lettering appears to have been carved into the darker wood. Carved might not be the right term, for the lettering is not uniform and is haphazardly strewn about, as if the engraver was using an improper tool or maybe something else… The words read. BEWARE! There Be Dragons Here, Certain Death To You. That’s it. All it says is BEWARE! There Be Dragons Here, Certain Death To You. That doesn’t help you any. You look down the path and all you see is a very unkempt path, overgrown that very quickly becomes more dark and mysterious as it turns the bend which you can’t see past anymore. Looking back at the sign you search for anything else you might have missed. You notice something. A piece looks like it has broken off, or ripped would be more like it. Bending down you pick it up and you turn it over. Branded into the wood in smaller lettering are words, Self-conciousness and Freedom. You trace the words with your fingers and you get a nasty shock when you get a splinter. You look down at the splinter and it twinkles at you. Examining it, you notice a bit of gold paint. You pull it out and think nothing more of it. Taking the broken piece back into your hands you match it up with the sign. Now you read BEWARE! There Be Dragons Here, Certain Death To You and below it; Self-conciousness and Freedom. As you sit there staring at those words, a shaft of light cast by the setting sun breaks through the trees and illuminates the sign. Flakes of gold within those two tiny words sparkle briefly in the fading light, remnants of the magic once there. Then the light is gone and you have a decision to make….
Those words Self-conciousness and Freedom represent best the essence of the work that follows.
Be Brave my friends for Their Be Dragons Here
Hungry they are…
